Days before the assassination a far-right group distributed anti-Kennedy leaflets around downtown Dallas.
In the days prior to President John F. Kennedy's assassination, thousands of copies of this flyer appeared around downtown Dallas, accusing the president, of among other things, being communist sympathizer and anti-Christian.
The flyers were the creation of retired Major General Edwin Walker, a far-right ultra-conservative who had fought in World War II and the Korean War. Walker resigned his post in 1961 after he was found guilty of violating the Hatch Act.
In a strange coincidence, Walker had been the target of an assassination attempt by Lee Harvey Oswald in April of 1963. Oswald, who shot into Walker's home from less than a hundred feet away, narrowly missed him -- the wooden frame of the window deflected the bullet.
